First of all, it allows you to see your progress and that of the other trainees which help you estimate the level of each one in front of a jury made up of the instructor and his assistants.

Depending on his level, the trainee will have to present techniques, movements, but also give the Japanese name of these techniques, present one or several kata, etc.

From the white belt to the black belt

In karate-do, the belts order is as follows:

white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and black.

There are also intermediate belts for children, such as white and yellow or orange and green.

Climb the ranks

A child can expect to obtain a black belt after a minimum of 7 years of serious and steady practice.

Adolescents and adults can achieve it after a minimum of 4 years of practice.

Any trainee who regularly attends training sessions throughout the year can easily pass his belts without too much difficulty.

Determination and perfection

In order to pass the ranks, besides the technical level of the practitioner, various aspects are evaluated, notably self-confidence, concentration, determination, etc.

The higher the rank, the more perfection is required in the trainee’s techniques.
