How to choose a dissuasive weapon?
Since assaults can occur at any time, the choice of defensive weapon is important and must comply with the regulations. You must find the one that best suits you, both for its ease of use, and for its dissuasive impact. Remember that if you are attacked and you defend yourself, you must react in a way that is proportional to the aggression. Defensive weapons, also called anti-aggression, include all non-lethal weapons that allow you to react to the external attack of a malicious individual or an animal. Here are some examples:
- Tear gas canisters;
- Fake guns;
- Electric or telescopic baton;
- ArCompressed air weapons (usually rubber bullets with power less than 20 joules and small caliber);
- Handguns (such as brass knuckles);
- Electrical impulse weapons (mainly electric shockers).
Aerosols for defense
This type of self defense weapon is quite popular and widespread, as it is very effective. The idea is to release a tear gas that immobilizes the target for a short period of time to give you time to flee or call the police. Be careful not to get hit in the face if you use it into the wind. Remember that regarding the law, they are theoretically not allowed.
Electric shockers
Often compared to tasers, electric shockers work in the same way, as they neutralize the aggressor by stimulating and contracting the muscles via an electric current. The aggressor is “paralyzed”.
Discreet and very effective, the shocker is safe for the user and can be hidden very easily, as it takes the form of an ordinary object (telephone, flashlight…). A great surprise for the individual who intended to harm you.
Alarm guns
The fake shots and a more realistic detonation are effective to repel burglars. Depending on the model, you can even produce the effect of a flame with special cartridges or shoot your attacker with incapacitating ammunition (with CS or pepper).
Be careful, because if they do not present any danger, neither for you nor for your attacker(s), know that in case of an attack in the street, your opponent may carry a gun too, whether it be a rifle, knife, a firearm or a revolver.
The best defense weapon to protect yourself from an aggression
The first thing to remember is that the best weapon of defense in the street is your behavior. If you avoid risky places, travel at the wrong time or in the middle of the night, follow a few simple safety guidelines (such as not wearing expensive accessories and jewelry, not opening your wallet in the middle of the street with money inside, or keeping your smartphone in your pocket), you will drastically reduce the risk of being mugged.
A second thing to remember: don’t react to provocations and ask yourself “is your physical health, the contents of your bag or your smartphone really worth the risk?”
Third and most important tip: learn to defend yourself using self defense techniques. Why? Simply because your attackers won’t hesitate to enter your comfort zone and go “head to head” with you. Hence, your self defense weapons may be useless.
