In this video from the online course “Martial Study 8: Survival on the Ground”, I will teach you how to use the pressure point “Bladder 57”, which comes from Kyusho Jitsu, in order to be more effective.

The surprise effect
First of all, you should know that the surprise effect multiplies the impact of this technique tenfold.
The “Bladder 57” pressure point is located at the base of the calf. Start by gently testing the sensation in training. Be careful, there is no need to hit like an oaf, especially if you miss your target.
If you are a beginner and you hit “blind”, it’s not good! However, you should not be too chivalrous constantly asking “are you okay? are you sure you’re okay?” don’t worry, he won’t lose his leg!
What is Kuysho Jitsu ?
When mentioning Kuysho, we talk about pressure points. It means attacking pressure points, nerves against the bone and such.
Basically, either you hurt too much or you don’t hurt enough. So, you have to dose exactly, which requires mastering the Kyusho. That’s the most difficult part.
You hit with a sharp blow at the base of the calf to reach the “Bladder 57”. In training, it is important to massage your partner after a few strikes, because it would be silly to hurt him and even more so if a second heel pushes him to this level.
Be aware that some people are more sensitive than others to pressure points. It is therefore necessary to go all out in an aggressive situation. In addition, the surprise effect will give a completely different impact to your strike. Don’t forget this criterion!
Alternatives
Now that you know where the “Bladder 57” pressure point is located, let’s see the different situations in which it can be used.
First of all, you can use it if your attacker is on the ground, lying on his back:
- either by capturing his leg to the outside and pressing with your forearm (radial edge)
- or by capturing his leg from the inside, but bear in mind that this technique is risky since your face is within reach of your attacker’s other leg. You are then more vulnerable.
So work inside and outside! Learn to adapt to the situation.
Reaction
As mentioned above, some people are more or less sensitive to pressure points. Some are even insensitive to them!
In training, there is no need to hit hard, you would hurt yourself unnecessarily. The most important thing is the reaction!
Let’s imagine that a person bothers another. He certainly doesn’t expect you to grab him from behind. By surprise, you draw him to the ground with your hands and you strike with your foot at the pressure point “Bladder 57” to destabilize him. If he suffers, so much the better, it’s a big bonus. But what matters is the REACTION!
