How to defend yourself against a bear hug in Self-defense (with the “horse kiss”)

The horse kiss, or “hand bite”, is a relatively well known technique among practitioners.

As its name does NOT indicate, it consists in pinching at the level of the thigh, using the fingers.

It is very useful to provoke an opening and to get out of a grab, the technique causes a very strong pain and leads to a backward movement. It is ideal to get out of a grab quickly!

Like all the techniques we teach, this “hand bite” is particularly effective in certain situations (“the right technique at the right time“, as we like to call it), especially during a grab where the victim has little room to maneuver.

How to make an effective hand bite? That’s what we’re going to see in this article!

The setting of the aggression

Once again, we will first detail the elements of a typical assault.

Here, we demonstrate a belting, with both arms of the victim in a grip. This is admittedly quite unrealistic, but it helps illustrate the ideal use of a horse kiss.

It is very uncomfortable, as the victim has very little freedom of movement.

Forget about punches and kicks in this situation, or even knees if the belt is made below the elbow (the victim is then a real human sausage!).

Imagine your arms at your side, unable to move them… What would you do to get out of this situation?

The ideal would be to get out of the way with a knee strike to the genitals, but depending on the type of belt, you may not have the space to do so!

In such a situation, the best weapon would probably be a well-placed headbutt, or a bite (with the teeth, this time!).

Or, our favorite horse kiss.

The horse kiss (hand bite): how to inflict maximum pain

The horse kiss is done with the full hand to grab the muscle on the inner side of the thigh and then squeeze hard with the fingers folded inward toward the palm.

This is why we prefer to use the term “hand bite” which is more meaningful.

The goal is not simply to grab the muscle, which causes a more or less tolerable pain, but also to squeeze the muscle on a small and very targeted area.

To do this, you need to think of the “bite”, i.e. your fingers are contracted inward and pointing to a single area. Thus, your force will be directed towards this point and will inflict a maximum of damage on this part.

The idea is not just to pinch but to grab the muscle and squeeze it like a lemon!

Before gripping, you must properly grab the muscle with your flat hand and then squeeze your fingers towards the inside of the thigh. This will greatly increase your contact area and allow you to properly grip the thigh, full hand, which is necessary if the attacker is wearing thick, tight pants, especially jeans.

By squeezing your fingers to a targeted point, you will then be able to create pain in a smaller part and not the entire surface of the thigh, which is less effective.

For more effectiveness, rotate your hand at the same time as the bite!

Of course, you can apply this to the testicles!

If you do it correctly, the attacker should move his bruised leg back, which opens up space to strike, including to inflict a knee strike.
