In this video, I will explain how to make your strikes more powerful and impactful using the “Twist” principle from the Street Karate method. The goal is to have more impact with your strikes and to inject more energy into the body of your attacker.

What does the twist consist of?

I invented this term, but everyone is free to translate it as they wish.

What I call the “Twist” is a blocking or attacking technique that consists in making the part that is going to attack or block “twist” upon the impact.

If your attacker throws a direct punch to your chin, and you block with your forearm from the outside in, you are doing an offensive block. This is great for both blocking and striking.

To go a step further, if you can, I recommend “twisting” your technique (blocking or striking). Twisting is a huge plus that can hurt a lot, especially if you hit the face.

Activate pressure points

This technique is mostly used in Kyusho Jistu – the art of pressure points – to activate pressure points. It is also used in Systema. It has to do with energy. Hitting your partner’s body is fine, because you are in contact. However, when you strike, the energy remains outside your opponent’s body, meaning that he takes the blows, but your energy remains on the surface.

So, to “inject” a little more of your energy into your attacker’s body and not forgetting to use the reserve, I advise you to slightly “twist” or rotate your strike.

This simple technique does not require a huge strength to knock out your opponent (although it depends on each opponent and each situation), but if you “twist” well, your punch will take another dimension.

It is this little “twist” you can use with almost any arm technique.

In short, although this technique is not mandatory, you must understand that every time you strike, it is interesting to “twist” your strike upon impact.
